 | This Shockwave game is a port from a Playskool
system called Talk N' Play: an early example of interactive media. A special tape playing
machine was sold as a toy, and different adventures were sold seperately. Each adventure
consisted of a tape and a book. The machine was capable of isolating one of four channels
on the adventure tape. Channels were isolated by the pressing of color-coded buttons, allowing
for scenarios to have multiple outcomes.
I have emulated the Talk N' Play machine in Shockwave to
run the Fraggle Rock adventure. All pictures from the adventure book have been scanned and
included. With it's multiple channels, the game has over 40 minutes of straming audio and contains
the voices of talented performers: Jerry Nelson, Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Kathy Mullen, Karen Prell, and Richard
Hunt. The game also contains two new songs. Unfortunately these weren't written by Balsam and Lee,
and I feel that they don't live up to expectations.
For this game the characters were often de-evolved to suit pre-schoolers, so I take
no responsibility for any lasting mental problems that arise from playing this game. But take my
word for it... this is better than purple dinos.
Oh, and one other thing, don't complain to me about the screwed up Spiral Cavern. I didn't
write the story! |
